Well what a great Christmas present for the residents of Iluka when, after two plus years of canvassing for an ambulance station in our beloved town, the Deputy Premier John Barilaro announced at a community meeting at the Iluka Bowling Club on December 10 that we would get our wish. The funding has been allocated and an ambulance station will be built in Iluka.
Without the support of the community and surrounding areas we would not have been able to obtain the 11,500 signatures to our petition. Local member Chris Gulaptis presented our petition in parliament and even though it was rejected by the Health Minister he kept putting the pressure on until he got the result Iluka wanted. The community is grateful for Chris’s persistence and belief in our community.
The Iluka Ambulance Action Group (IAAG) committee have been a tremendous help in providing us with support and guidance when needed. These people know who they are and we are forever grateful to them.
Our aim now is to keep pressure on the government to make sure that planning is happening and that reality is not too far away.
